Banner Ads

Banner ads appear at the top of the screen when you go to a website. They are usually ads for a product or ‘fun’ games like find the red cell phone and win a free ring tone, that lead to another website.

Sometimes advertisers will pay large amounts of money to have their ads on a website. The advertisers want to transfer feelings from the ad to you by putting their banner ads on multiple popular websites for kids so that you see it a lot.

Advertisers use strategies like scapegoating, an advertising technique where the advertiser blames all the problems on people who don’t use the product. Another common strategy is humor, which is used in most ads to catch the viewers interest.

One other thing about banner ads is that they are harder to get rid of than pop up adds. Banner sometimes have fake "X"s that make make you think you are exiting the the site. Instead, they bring you to other sites when you click on it. They appear on the top of your screen so you have to look at them.
